That modesty and that sentiment seems to be shared by all the survivors of Easy Company, 506th PRI, and many of them can’t gain attend the tears as they advise it. One of the tall benefits of this obliging series was the closeup interviews of the accurate men portrayed, those astonishing feeble seamed faces, breaking at last with emotion as they win their experiences and the fancy of their comrades and the hurt of loss of other friends. It moves me greatly, and I’m satisfied the Extras in this state has an extended documentary re-tracing the time-frame of the film with these dependable veterans recalling the action we’ve seen re-created.
Brought with loving care and fanatic attention to detail by producers Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks and their carefully chosen band of producers, directors and actors, this is an unsentimental, near-documentary telling of the anecdote of Easy Co. from training to D-Day, Hedge Row fighting, Operation Market Garden, Bastogne, into Germany, liberation of Death Camps, and the win of Berchesgarden & Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest.
Throughout it all, the aim has been to inform it straight and pick up it suitable. They have done so in much style. The truth HAS enough drama, and the various episodes state it. We acquire to know these men and care about them. We marvel at their endurance and the device they go about getting the job done, professionally, and with matter-of-fact, everyday courage. It is a just tribute to the Citizen Soldiers who won the war.

With 10 episodes and lots of extra goodies, presented within an exceptional package, there is impartial too considerable to review here. Some memorable moments: the harrowing jump into the explosive, tracer-lit night skies of Normandy; the assault on the 88’s; Winter’s killing the young German; the episode dedictated to the Medic; the gruesome artillery barrage on the men in the snowy forest of Bastogne; the shock of the farmer’s wife on seeing the closeup hand-to-hand killing of the German by “Bull”; and finally, the incredibly involving scenes of the liberation of the Concentration Camp, and the final days of Easy at the War’s ruin.
These last episodes are all the more worthy because we have followed Easy Co. and these men and have seen the death so random and arbitrary around and among them that a lifeless emotional tension has been built that we now realize with the intensity of anger/pity/horror at the Camps and the bittersweet joy and subsequent farewell of VE day.
I could cite vast moments by each individual actor, and nicely played and effectively understated but powerfully emotional scenes but suffice it to say this is an ensemble share with reliable performances throughout. The aloof power of the different episodes underscores how wonderfully written the entire portion is, and with corresponding righteous direction and production values.

A one-of-a-kind production, having the time to remark the chronicle with detail and care, and with all fervent doing honor to the men who lived it. And finally, there are those men, bringing it all help to the reality of steady lives lived. Exceptional stuff.
Band of Brothers is an dread interesting and visually elegant tribute, not only to Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, but to the “Greatest Generation.” But for their sacrifices, would we fraction the freedoms we so esteem and covet to our vests today! Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg deserve all of the awards and accolades they received for bringing this chronicle to HBO and now this wonderful DVD box residence!
Part 1 – Currahee – Currahee is a amazing beginning to this unprecedented HBO miniseries. Outside of the movie “Saving Private Ryan” there has never before been such a realistic series such as this one. Currahee poignantly highlights the training that was considerable for the newly designed Airborne Infantry. While some may reflect that Captain Sobel was a complete idiot, in all truth, his combat skills were obviously lacking however, as a trainer, he establish Easy Company in a very obedient location as a well trained unit.
Part 2 – Day of Days – D-Day has arrived and Easy Company makes the jump that they’ve been preparing two years for. As history unfolds, the German flak has caused nearly every plane to miss their designated tumble zone. 1LT Winters finds he’s in Normandy, lost his weapon and his company. He finally arrives at the assembly set and is given the mission to purchase out a German artillery site. Day of Days is an satisfactory episode that doesn’t miss out on 1LT Winters depth of emotions as he loses his first soldier in combat.
Part 3 – Carentan – Easy Company is ordered in to recall the French village of Carentan. While encountering only minor resistance, they retract light casualties. After successfully taking the town, they’re ordered to travel on to the next impartial. En route, they encounter the German force sent to retake Carentan. They stalemate for the evening, expecting to forge a chubby assault in the morning. The Germans have other plans though and counter attack in the morning with a combined force of mechanized infantry and armor. Fortunately for Easy Company, they are finally rescued by the 2nd Armored Division. Shortly after this action they are lucky enough to accumulate some R&R befriend in England. The explain ends with orders attend to the front and a very poignant final scene to yet another unbelievable episode.
Part 4 – Replacements – Replacements jumps forward to September and Easy Company is on R&R in England. They’re called into Operation Market Garden. Easy Company is given the mission to seize Eindhoven, Holland. They were told they would be running into light resistance. Operation Market Garden turns into a spacious failure and the Allied Forces are turned abet with heavy casualties. Sgt “Bull” Randleman is quite downhearted enough to glean stuck leisurely enemy lines. “Replacements” is another splendid episode.
Part 5 – Crossroads – Crossroads is one of the best shows of the whole miniseries. Captain Winters, due to the costs of war, garners advancement from Easy Company Commander to Battalion Executive Officer. The episode is shown, through the eyes of Captain Winters as he is preparing a relate on the actions of October 5th when he led his company in the attack of a German SS situation. The more telling portion is later in the episode when he gets an R&R in Paris and the horrors of war gain up to him.
Part 6 – Bastogne – To quote Captain Winters, “we’re paratroopers; we’re supposed to be surrounded.” Bastogne tells the narrative, from Easy Companies point of idea, about the 101st Airborne Infantry being surrounded by German forces and holding the line during the Battle of the Bulge. This is also the combat action where the Commanding General of the 101st Airborne replied to the German Commanders examine for their surrender, “nuts.”
Part 7 – The Breaking Point – January 1945 and Easy Company is on the verge of attacking the Germans in Foy, Belgium. Due to heavy resistance, Easy Company endures nearly a month of being barraged by German artillery on the front line. This episode is very telling as far as the how demoralizing the artillery can be.
Part 8 – The Last Patrol – Easy Company is on the front line in the Alsacian town of Haguenau. They now have the sense that the war is coming to a end, as they are fair across the river from Germany. The brigade commander orders a patrol across the border to gain German prisoners. This episode again brings to the forefront the emotions of the soldiers as they again are counted on to conclude their mission!
Part 9 – Why We Fight – This episode is clearly the most poignant of the series as Easy Company finds and liberates a concentration camp. Although there had been rumors of these concentration camps, no once could truly comprehend what they were about until they were faced with them! This episode alone should’ve garnered several awards.
Part 10 – Points – Easy Company takes Eagles Nest, Hitler’s mountaintop fortress. The company settles in as an occupation force, yet expecting to be redeployed to the Japanese warfront. A very emotional what happened to several of the units members after the war. Overall, this episode is a wonderful conclusion to the “Band of Brother.”

At the core of what looks on the surface to be a standard summer buddy movie is an attractive premise: What does become of the overly sensitized male when confronted with the reality that all his closest friends are female and that he is at a complete loss to procure any groomsmen, in particular, a best man, for his wedding? It’s not an earth-shattering plight to address, yet the dwelling gives rise to a lot of laughable questions about what constitutes masculine behavior in our supposedly evolved society. Fortunately, director/co-writer John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) has fashioned a 2009 comedy (with co-writer Larry Levin) pudgy of shrewd observations and hilarious gags that transcend formula and elevate the tale into something modern and genuinely likeable.

When sweet-natured L.A. proper estate broker Peter Klaven decides to marry Zooey, his girlfriend of eight months, it dawns on both of them that he has no terminate male friends. Whispers about his manhood and her dread of him being too clingy as a husband lead Peter to plot up a series of disastrous man-dates, one being the predictable incorrect jubilant date. However, it’s at an commence house at Lou Ferrigno’s manse that he meets his personality opposite – Sydney Fife, a slovenly, blunt albeit socially observant slacker. As it turns out, their differences complement one another in a scheme that makes them best buddies almost from the get-go – that and a favorite obsession for the 1970’s power band Race. Naturally, Zooey starts to resent Sydney’s burgeoning role in Peter’s life – and things glean complicated before the inevitable conclusion.
Two of Judd Apatow’s familiar acquire company star. Finally at the center of a major movie, Paul Rudd is ideally cast as Peter since the role takes advantage of how he combines his boyish charm and unpredictable nebbishness into a memorable character. In fact, he manages to give Peter’s awkward attempts to overcome his social scare a clear emotional resonance. We feel every painful step he takes in replicating Sydney’s free spirit, and it becomes easy to root for his success. Mighty better cast here than as the self-conscious lead in last year’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segel offers his doughy likeability to a role that suits his casual, lumbering personality, even when he exposes an intimate secret between Peter and Zooey in a wedding party dinner toast.

If the interplay between Rudd and Segel feels familiar from Apatow comedies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, it is a coincidence that Hamburg takes chunky advantage of to maintain the movie comically racy. Rashida Jones brings a raspy appeal to Zooey, although she is kept mostly at the sidelines. Also underused are Jaime Pressly as Zooey’s tart-tongued friend Denise and as Peter’s parents, J.K. Simmons (playing the same wiseass father he played in Juno) and especially Jane Curtin. Jon Favreau has a thankless role as Denise’s alpha-male jerk of a husband, while Andy Samberg makes a most unconvincing pleased as Peter’s sleep-around, personal trainer brother. There are plenty of laughs throughout its slightly long 105-minute running time, but what may surprise you is the number of insightful moments that this affectionate, satirical comedy provides.
The United States, in general, is quite a homophobic country. Men are expected to have platonic feelings of fancy only for immediate family members, such as parents, grandparents, siblings and their maintain offspring. Sharing one’s nonsexual feelings of fancy outside this slight world is basically considered taboo. In other cultures this is certainly not the case, something I had the well-behaved fortune to experience first hand!
I Treasure You, Man does a top-notch job of comparing and contrasting heterosexual women’s emotionally rich, same-sex friendships with heterosexual men’s typically barren, same-sex friendships. It exposes the hypocrisy that it’s okay for women to hug and be emotionally stop and talk in graphic details about their sex lives amongst themselves, but NOT for a man to do the same accurate thing!
What a refreshing and insightful film! This knowing memoir also compares male homosexual and heterosexual same-sex relationships and on the surface, at least, they are indistinguishable! This might be news to some people – but all well-adjusted human beings have a yearning for emotionally rewarding relationships!
And, one person can not fulfill ALL your emotional needs! It’s really that simple!
Thank you Hollywood for taking such a risk in making such a profound film with a vast sense of humor! It shows you contain a obvious segment of the American public is obsolete enough to want to ogle the meaning of platonic fancy between men!

Completing the loosely connected trilogy that also includes Metropolitan and Barcelona, writer-director Whit Stillman brings his signature style to this casually structured but acerbically witty ode to… well, to the last days of disco. Set in New York during 1980-81, the film follows its half-dozen central characters onto the strobe-lit dance floor of The Club–the anonymous name Stillman gave to the central setting, knowing at the time that his film would be released in close proximity to 54, the bigger-budget movie about the legendary and infamous nightclub Studio 54. In fact, Stillman’s film captures the same period with greater accuracy, and draws us into the waning disco craze with more incisive wit and deft handling of a first-rate cast.
The film’s casual plot revolves around six recent college graduates, and Stillman charts their clashes and intimacies with a keen sense of human foibles and frailties, pausing throughout for such characteristic touches as a hilarious conversation about the sexual politics of Disney’s Lady and the Tramp or the homoerotic subtext in an episode of Wild Kingdom. Sharp dialogu is in rich abundance here, and through it all Stillman captures the fading glory of disco as his characters make the transition toward adult responsibilities. It’s here that we see how this film is subtly intertwined with Stillman’s earlier work, and where we gain a fuller and more satisfying appreciation of a filmmaker who has carved a singular niche for himself in the world of independent movies. –Jeff Shannon

This savagely funny satire portrays El Hadji, a prosperous, self-satisfied, politically crooked modern businessman who is struck down by the xala (pronounced “ha-la”) – a curse rendering its victim impotent. While he chases after witch doctors and soothsayers on a frantic, often hilarious search for a cure, his impotence becomes a mirror of the powerlessness of young African nations over dependent on white technology.
Unable to consummate his third (polygamous) marriage, and neglecting his business affairs and political activities as he seeks a cure, his social stature is stripped away, leaving him shamed and humiliated. And while humorous, there is a sympathy in his downfall at the hands of others who are even more corrupt than he is.
XALA is a moving and comical look at a man caught up in the corruption of his country and the tribulations of a changing society.
